The Utah Avalanche Center, or UAC, is a vital, life-saving organization for anyone who enjoys winter recreation in Utah’s mountains. With an experienced team of expert avalanche forecasters, they work out in the field analyzing snowpack, making judgements about avalanche danger, then reporting back to all of us via their website and telephone hotline.
Without the UAC, most backcountry skiers would be traveling in avalanche terrain totally blind to any knowledge of how dangerous the conditions may be. Unfortunately, as a non-profit organization, the UAC always suffers from a lack of funding. Sure they get some money from government agencies, but the rest needs to come from private donations.
Backcountry.com, along with Ski Utah, are helping the UAC by offering discounted lift tickets to several Utah ski resorts. The way it works is; you buy a special discounted ticket through Backcountry.com, and 100 percent of the proceeds go to fund the Utah Avalanche Center so they can continue to keep backcountry skiers and snowboarders on top, instead of buried under, Utah’s world famous powder.
The nine participating ski resorts are as follows: Park City Mountain Resort, The Canyons, Beaver Mountain, Brighton, Wolf Mountain, Deer Valley, Sundance, Alta, and Snowbasin. The UAC discounted ticket program started on December 16, and will end when all ticket are sold out, so get on it!
