Although Utah Outside has only been online for a few months, we’ve been lucky enough to test out lots of different pieces of outdoor gear from several different companies. Some gear was good, some great, and others not so great. But when using gear in the outdoors, the cream always rises to the top, so here is the top five gear reviews of 2009.
5. Marker Baron Backcountry Ski Bindings:
Burly ski touring bindings that are awesome on the down, but could be better on the up. Far from perfect, these bindings still get the job done despite weight issues. You can purchase these bindings at Backcountry.com.
4. Guyot Designs Cup/Bowl Set:
Very creative bowls made from silicon which are perfect for camping and backpacking. They pack down, are lightweight and super easy to clean. You can purchase Guyot Bowls at REI.
3. Pearl Izumi X-Alp Enduro Bike Shoes:
Stiff, tight and good looking, these mountain bike shoes deliver when clipped in, and have enough sole and flex to hike-a-bike on the steep and loose hills. You can purchase Pearl Izumi shoes at REI.com.
The coolest invention in outdoor gear of 2009, the Klymit vest uses argon gas as insulation and it is extremely warm. Only downside is the need to purchase more gas over time. You can purchase the Klymit Vest at the Klymit website.
1. Patagonia Nano Puff Pullover:
Lightweight, compressible, and most importantly, warm. The best insulated layer we tested this year and is so comfortable, my wife kept stealing it from me and wrote the review. You can purchase the Nano Puff at Patagonia.com.
