Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort has come up with a novel way to get people on the slopes and above the unhealthy air in the Salt Lake Valley. This “Red Air” discount of $20 off tram and chairs lift tickets on any day issued as a red air quality alert in Salt Lake County means anyone can enjoy a day of skiing in fresh air for less money.
Generally during winter inversions in northern Utah, cold, polluted air gets trapped in the valleys, while the mountains remain warm and sunny. Locals already know that those are good times to get above the gunk and make some turns under bluebird skies, but now they have extra incentive to make the drive up Little Cottonwood Canyon.
According to Snowbird, all skiers and snowboarders have to do is ask for the “Red Air Days” discount at the ticket window in order to receive $20 off. The offer is only good for adult Tram and Chairs tickets purchased on the day of a red air quality alert issued by the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.
The only catch is that this offer is not valid Feb. 12-15 and Snowbird may decide to end it at any time. Snowbird also wants to encourage everyone to ride the UTA bus up the canyon to help keep even more pollution from getting into the air. A schedule of routes and times can be found at the UTA website at http://www.rideutah.com
