This month thousands of people will to flock to Sundance while thousands of people will flock Sundance.
Not a typo, but a reality! And it can only happen during January in Utah.
While formally adorned moviegoers residents call ‘black coats’ try to mesh with local skiers and snowboarders in Park City for the Sundance Film Festival, a completely different set will seek out the peaceful snowy scenery at the Sundance Ski Resort about 45 minutes away.
Sundance resort is nestled among snow-capped mountains and boasts several buildings with rustic charm. Visitors are welcomed with a rock bearing the Sundance moniker, Lexus company cars and lots of majestic camera opportunities. Inside, award-winning restaurants greet snow-capped visitors.
Diners can choose among fish tacos ($15), four onion tart ($8.50) and tenderloin rigatoni $18.50) inside the casual Foundry Grill. The nearby Tree Room offers delicacies such as Thirty Two Hour Antelope Short Ribs ($40) and Pan Roasted Utah Trout ($34). If that isn’t enough, you can sip wine bearing the Sundance label!
And after dessert, why not dance off those extra calories to live music at the Owl Bar? A $5 cover charge applies and you must 21 to enter.
Also, don’t miss the General Store. It’s like walking back in time with wooden floors and giant homemade lollipops. Next door sits the gift shop and a small ‘museum’ featuring moments in Sundance film history.
Sundance offers 3 lifts and 41 runs over 450 acres, and as an extra treat, skiers can enjoy night skiing 4:30pm-9pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays.
(As a side note, January is National Learn a Snow Sport Month. So, what better time to perfect your sweet snowboard flips? Thirteen different Utah resorts are taking part in the event. Some restrictions do apply, so go to Ski Utah’s website for the latest information.)
Sundance resort offers event packages starting at $2,506 that include several night’s stay at a mountain cottage, and tickets to film screenings at both the Sundance Village and Park City and film credentials.
Now that’s Sundancing to the extreme!
