The new rock climbing film “Core” will screen at Brewvies on Thursday, April 22. It’s the latest from filmmaker Chuck Fryberger who says it, “exposes the contrast in landscape and lifestyle that defines the sport. A close examination of each character offers perspective beyond just their achievements on the stone.”
That’s pretty deep. I suspect most people will check it out just to see some sick climbing footage like when, “a 5.14 traditional route gets its first ascent,” along with “actual first ascent footage from ‘Livin Large’, Nalle Hukkataival’s monster 8C,” as well as, “first ascent footage from Fred Nicole’s hardest-ever project in Switzerland.”
For film geeks out there, the movie was shot in 35mm Ultra High Definition with the Red Digital Cinema 4k. Does that means it’s also the highest quality climbing film ever? Will we get to see the tiniest details, like the fingerprints of an elite climber being ripped off in a sandstone crack? Find yourself at Brewvies on Thursday night and find out.
“Core” will have two screenings. The first show is at 7pm and second show is at 9pm. Tickets are $10 at the door.
