The Tour de Brewtah combines two of the greatest things in life… beer and bikes. What makes the event even better is that the ride helps support local, non-profit organizations. Essentially, Tour de Brewtah (described as Utah’s finest quaff and pedal push) is a ride that involves exactly what it sounds like. Bike enthusiasts ride around town, touring Salt Lake City from brewery to brewery.
On Saturday, May 8th, riders will stop at four local brew pubs, including Red Rock, Uinta, Desert Edge and Squatters. At each location riders will be given one beer to drink, then it’s off to the next brewery. At the Uinta stop, local band Big Black Sky will be jamming out for everyone’s entertainment as live music always makes beer taste better. The ride ends at Squatters for the final party.
Ah hell, instead of trying to explain it, here’s the official schedule:
11:00 am – 12:00 pm – Registration at Live Green Festival, Downtown Library Square
12:15 – Ride Begins!!
12:30 – 1:15 – Riders arrive at Red Rock Brewery, enjoy their first beer
1:00 – 1:30 – Riders depart for Uinta Brewery
1:30 – 2:00 – Riders arrive at Uinta and enjoy another delicious beer
2:15 – 2:45 – Finish up at Uinta and ride to Desert Edge
3:00 – 3:45 – Riders arriving at Desert Edge and continue enjoying themselves
3:45 – 4:15 – Riders depart Desert Edge for Squatters
4:00 – 6:00 – End of the ride “happy hour” party at Squatters!
So what’s the point other than dressing up in costume, mounting a bike, drinking beer and overall having a good time? To help out charity of course. Several local non-profits will benefit from the Tour de Brewtah, including The Fourth Street Clinic, HEAL Utah, and Save Our Canyons, just to name a few.
According to organizers, the Tour de Brewtah also aims to, “build a stronger local community by featuring bicycling as a viable means of transportation, as well as featuring local breweries, local non-profits, and our registration site, RideMyBike.com, which is also based in Salt Lake City.”
Again, the Tour de Brewtah launches on Saturday, May 8th 2010. Registration begins at 11AM. All the spots have already filled up, but there is a waiting list for anyone who wants to ride and hasn’t signed up yet. They’re also looking for volunteers who will, of course, be paid in beer.
