It’s so hot in Utah right now that skiing isn’t even close to being conceivable. But colder weather is on the minds of skiers and snowboarders, and winter will be here before we know it.
Ski Utah knows this future to be true, and will start celebrating the upcoming snowfall with a 100 day countdown to ski season on August 7 at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Salt Lake City with an event to benefit the Wasatch Backcountry rescue avalanche dogs.
For only a $1 donation, Ski Utah will let you eat yellow snow. In this case, yellow snowcones by Snowie. Utah’s avalanche dogs will be there, so hopefully they won’t be providing the yellow flavoring, but they will perform skills demonstrations. Utah ski resorts will also be there to hand out goodie bags and provide resort information to the info starved.
Wasatch Backcountry Rescue is a nonprofit Utah corporation, incorporated in 1977 to provide life-saving rescue and recovery services to the general public, including training and handling the avalanche dogs. According to Jake Hutchinson, director of ski patrol for The Canyons Resort, “Dog teams reduce the number of personnel exposed to further hazard,” adding, “One canine team can do the job of more than 150 people searching with probes in rock-hard avalanche debris.” So help support this live-saving team of dogs by eating yellow snow.
In addition, the August 7 event at the Farmer’s Market will also serve as the kick-off to Ski Utah’s Ultimate Powder Hound search. Ski Utah is searching for the Ultimate Powder Hound to join their blogging team. As part of the blog team, the Ultimate Powder Hound will be awarded a Ski Utah Silver Pass which enables them to ski 30 days each at every Utah ski resort.
Ski Utah has never before awarded a Sliver Pass as a contest prize. Entrants are required to fill out a short application and submit a 30 second video on why they should be selected as the Ultimate Powder Hound. For information visit www.skiutah.com/powderhound.
