Mountain biking is King at Snowbasin in August when the resort hosts the 2nd Annual Mt. Ogden 50/100k Endurance Mountain Bike Race. This year there are three categories: 100k solo, 50k solo and 100k 4-person relay. The course consists of two 25k loops for the 50K and an new-this-year expanded course for the 100k that winds through expanded trails on the mountain. The 100k relay will be 4 loops on the 25k course. All races will start at the base of Snowbasin Resort.
Endurance mountain biking, however, isn’t the only thing happening at the resort that day. There’s also a festival and mountain bike expo that riders and non-riders alike can hang out at and enjoy. Activities planned include a barbecue, beer, bike demos, sponsor and vendor tents, folks selling arts and crafts, a climbing wall and bike races for the kids, obstacle course, and live music from Chronic Layover.
The Mt. Odgen 50k/100k takes place on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 7:00 a.m. Riders must check in between 5 and 6:15 a.m. before the race briefing at Earls Lodge. Then the race begins with the 100k participants taking off at 7. The rest of the race gets underway in staggered starts with the 50k at 7:30 and the 100k relay at 7:35. Then the party begins at 10 a.m. when the expo and festival kicks off at the finish line.
Because of the early start, racers and their support crews can camp in the parking lot at Snowbasin for free. There will also be showers for all racers to use post-race. Biggest bonus: a prize raffle for all racers with the granddaddy of prizes up for grabs; a Snowbasin 2010/11 Season Ski Pass.
