Southern Utah skiers rejoice! The chair lifts haven’t operated for eight seasons, but the once defunct Elk Meadows ski area above Beaver is being reborn for the 2010/2011 ski season under a new name. Eagle Point. Extensive renovations have been done to the abandoned ski lodges, lifts and infrastructure to get the resort in operating order in time for ski season, beginning in mid December.
Shane Gadbaw, the CEO of Eagle Point, came into possession of the struggling resort during a bankruptcy proceeding after developers failed in their attempt to create an exclusive, private ski area known as Mount Holly Resort. Residents of Beaver and surrounding communities protested the development, and the recession took care of the rest.
Instead of exclusivity, Eagle Point will go back to the roots of Elk Meadows, and Gadbow says the resort will be affordable and family friendly. The ski and snowboard area will feature 36 runs covering 400 skiable acres. Lifts include one quad chairlift, one triple chair, two double chairs, and one platter servicing beginner, intermediate and expert terrain. Plans also include a halfpipe and significant backcountry access.
Eagle Point is located in the Tushar Mountains, one of Utah’s highest ranges. The resort’s base elevation sits at 9,100 feet, where an average of 400 inches of snow falls per year.
The opening of Eagle Point means Utah will now have 14 ski resorts within the state.

thank god,
at long last a owner who understands their market. as a long term property owner it will be wonderful to see progress on this mountain. this resort always was best suited for a family freindly ski area. i have boarded and skied on some of the lightest snow on earth on the mt holly side. just as a notion for style. the letter that was sent soliciting properties for rental did not invite those property owners to come and ski this year or announce the resort was to be open to the public, hopefully an oversight, … sort of a large one.. , formerly the property was slated as a private ski area for the rich and famous,…blah blah blah, Beaver???, are you serious?, can you say pipe dream??? anyway a semiprivate resort with reasonable membership fees could help solidify the once loyal following on this mountain and help to continue to build interest with significant traffic from everyday families who can pile in a car and drive there from salt lake, and vegas, good luck to the new owner.
