Did you ever wake up late one winter morning and casually check the snow report, only to realize in despair that it snowed an unexpected foot of powder in the Wasatch? It’s a painful event that has happened to us all. But thanks to Ski Utah and their new app for the iPhone, involuntary snowfall ignorance will become a thing of the past while our powder addictions will find a cheerful enabler.
The free Ski Utah iPhone App promises to deliver up-to-date information from Utah’s 14 ski resorts right into the palm of your hand, so you’ll always be able to know just what’s happening – especially important when the mountains are getting pounded.
According to Ski Utah, the app seems to be full of several features, including:
- Resort information
- Seven-day weather forecast
- High resolution trail maps
- Vacation deals
- Trip planning tools
- Event listings
- Detailed snow and weather reports
- Live resort web-cams
- Up-to-date photos and videos
But my favorite part of the app is the new Powder Alarm Clock. You can set it to specify your wake-up time based off new snow accumulation at any Utah resort of your choosing. Want to ski at Alta, but only if at snows at least six inches or more? Then you can set your phone to wake you up early in the morning if the snow reports shows your powder-day threshold has been met. So no more lame excuses from us like, “my alarm didn’t go off” or “the weather man didn’t say it was supposed to snow.”
The Ski Utah App has even more tools to feed a powder junkie’s addiction, like the Yeti Ski Day Tracker to help you tally your days spent on the snow. That way you can brag to your friends on Facebook and Twitter about how you skied 100 days in a row… and you have proof.
The Ski Utah Snow Report App is available free for download at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ski-utah-snow-report/id338725687?mt=8/
Although it sounds great, I haven’t been able to test out the new Ski Utah App myself because I’m a sad skier with a Droid. But Ski Utah assures us that an Android version will be available soon.
Have any of you iPhone owners downloaded the app, and if so, what do you think of it?
Very cool…..who/where put the app together for you? We’ve been thinking of doing one as well.
