In 2008, Brain Farm Cinema offered up a snowboarding video that was anything but the norm. ”That’s It That’s All” was more than just a couple of years worth of high quality snow-porn, it was a game-changer. Curt Morgan and Travis Rice (along with a crew of the world’s best schralpers) used HiDef, 35mm, and Super16 footage to reinvent what a snowboarding video could be… and now they’re about to do it all over again with this years release of “The Art of Flight.”
One viewing of the trailer confirms it: this movie is going to redefine snow videography. When TITA dropped, it was a combination of amazing riding and cinematography that made it stand out from the pack. Brain Farm went outside the box of usual tricks and used Cineflex V14HD camera shots in the film; the result was mind-blowing aerial vistas of the world’s greatest snowboarding arena: Alaska. The first time I watched TITA I was captivated by the beauty of the scenes; the riding was just an added bonus.
Morgan admitted in a few interviews that much of the time he was experimenting and learning what the Cineflex camera could do. Since the release of TITA the Brain Farm team has mastered the camera, as evidenced by their commercial work and contributions to major media outlets like National Geographic. Now that they have the camera system dialed it’s a no brainer that “The Art of Flight” will raise the bar of snowboard cinema even higher than the lofty TITA.
“The Art of Flight” is set for release in Fall 2011… for now we’ll just have to be content with the trailer.

Rice, Jackson, Lago, Landvik, Blauvelt, Muller, Ruf, DCP, Moore and the rest of the Brain Farm crew are awesome. They have such a vision of what the sport is, how it translates to film, and they have the best equipment and talent as well. No one else has the ability to show the world where this sport can take you, or the things people can see and do…… these films are set apart from all other snowboard flicks, that’s all I can say.
