Wow, it’s been one hell of a ski season here in Utah! For evidence, look no further than the fact that for the first time in history, Snowbasin will be re-opening for skiing and snowboarding on June 11th. Due to an outcry from Snowbasin skiers and riders, along with a 100 inch base, the resort just east of Ogden will fire up the lifts once again. According to Snowbasin, they will remain open as long as conditions allow.
Snowbasin will only be operating on weekends during the summer season, and skiers will have to upload and download on the Needles Gondola, which will take them to the top of the mountain where there’s plenty of snow covering several runs around the Middle Bowl Triple Chair. Operating hours will be from 8 am to 2 pm.
What’s even crazier is that weekend mountain biking and hiking gondola service will begin on June 25th. That means you can possibly ski, bike, and hike at Snowbasin, all in the same day. Call it the Wasatch Trifecta!
In a press release, Snowbasin’s General Manager said, “Maintenance scheduled for Needles Gondola has been recently completed which will allow access to the Middle Bowl Triple. Cool temperatures and a significant amount of late season snow has kept our base over 100 inches deep at mid mountain so it only seems natural for Snowbasin to re-open on weekends.”
More good news coming from Snowbasin is that season passes for the 2011/2012 season can be purchased starting Saturday, June 11th, giving everybody who goes skiing or snowboarding this summer access to the mountain earlier than ever before. Summer single day lift tickets will be sold for $35. Snowbasin says passes from the past 2010-2011 season will not be honored, and that barbeque food will be available on the mountain.

Nice! This will be a big help toward skiing every month of the year this year!
