eVent, the magical fabric that is waterproof and super breathable, is gaining traction in the outdoor industry, and could be found on the Salt Palace floor with new European products that are trying to gain a foothold in the U.S. market.
Montane is a British company that has two new shells coming in Spring 2012 that are made from eVent. The Trojan and Athena jackets are lightweight waterproof outer layers designed for long treks in the alpine. Seeing as how it’s a product from England, you can bet these shells can withstand the harshest, most wet weather nature can throw at them.
Also on display was a tent made out of eVent from Integral Designs.
So what makes eVent different from other waterproof/breathable membranes? Basically, eVent has millions of tiny pores that allows the fabric to breathe better than any competitor, while still maintaining its waterproof qualities. Sweat vents directly to the outside of the membrance, instead of becoming water vapor that has to be pushed out by your own body heat. eVent says their product lets sweat escape two-times faster than other waterproof/breathables.
So with that in mind, what U.S. companies have products that feature eVent? Look at Teva, REI, Integral Designs, Granite Gear, Sea to Summit, Saucony, Ahnu, Rab and Big Agnes just to name a few. It’s nice to see a smaller company like eVent gain traction on the big boys in the industry with a product that many outdoor professionals prefer.
