Say the name Ortovox and you immediately think of avalanche beacons. The company has long been on the front lines of avalanche safety, but they also make super technical jackets and packs as well. At the 2011 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, all the Ortovox goodies were on display.
I was really impressed with the quality of the shells and mid-layers in the Ortovox clothing line. Take for example the 3L (MI) La Grave hardshell jacket. It’s a bombproof looking shell with taped seams, Merino wool-lined pockets, helmet compatible hood and pit zips. It also comes in a women’s version called the Alagna.
Also in the lineup is the Ortovox Flece Logo Hoody. It’s a sweet looking mid-layer that’s super soft to the touch because it uses a blend of Merino wool on the inside lining for breathability and comfort.
For base layers, Ortovox had on display some Merino garments that look to be perfect for 3-season aerobic activities.
Finally, a whole line of mountain running gear is coming from Ortovox, such as clothes and packs like the Momentum 12 Light running pack. The Momentum 12 is full of features like breathable mesh straps, pole attachments, reflective light mounts, mesh storage compartments, energy bar pockets, hydration sleeve, helmet net, and enough room inside for emergency kits or an extra layer. It comes in three colors and looks to be just the thing for long-distance running in the backcountry.
All of these new products should be by summer of 2012. For more from Ortovox, visit them at www.ortovox.com
