It’s only September, and already the coming of winter can be felt in the air. Time to start thinking about avalanche safety and helping those who keep us alive in the backcountry. It’s time for the 2011 Utah Avalanche Center Fundraiser, hosted by Black Diamond. The big party will once again be at the Black Diamond Store in Salt Lake City, and takes place on September 15th. Tickets are on sale right now.
Like every year, the Utah Avalanche Center depends on backcountry users like skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers, and snowmobilers, to help fund their operations so they can continue to keep everybody on top of the snow instead of underneath it from an avalanche burial. Their daily safety reports and exhaustive snowpack research in Utah’s mountains are critical for this life-saving service, but it doesn’t come cheap. That’s why the UAC needs your attendance at the 18th annual Black Diamond Fall Fundraiser.
These early-season fundraising parties are also a good way to get stoked for the upcoming ski season as you gather with like-minded mountain dwellers. Plus, you’ll get to eat awesome Mexican food, drink beer, listen to live music, and feel good about helping support your local avalanche center.
The party is on Thursday the 15th from 6pm to 10pm at Black Diamond Equipment, located at 2084 East, 3900 South.
Tickets are $35 if purchased before September 11th then go up to $40.
Tickets are available at the Black Diamond Store or online at UtahAvalancheCenter.org. Anyone under the age of 21 must be accompanied by an adult and unlike a skin track in Mill Creek Canyon, no dogs are allowed.
