Salt Lake City’s Bluehouse Skis are throwing a party at their ski factory, and everyone is invited! But this isn’t just some hang out and chill with the boys kind of deal. No, this party is going to be a GnarBQ, which means it’s also a free screening of the ski movie parody, “G.N.A.R. The Movie.”
“G.N.A.R. The Movie” comes with a warning – “This film has an abundance of Man Ass.” Presented by Unofficial Networks, “G.N.A.R.” is the brain child of Scott and Robb Gaffney of Squaw Valley and Matchstick Productions fame. Oh, and Shane McConkey of course.
The movie is based on “Gaffney’s Numerical Assessment of Radness.” Hence – G.N.A.R. It’s a game played by skiers with the goal of scoring as many points as possible in a designated period of time by, for example, attempting insane ski lines, skiing naked, skiing with your eyes closed, bedding beautiful women in the lift line, etc. Gaffney wrote a book called “Squallywood” with a chapter that outlines the rules of the game. Squaw Valley skiers and snowboarders have been playing G.N.A.R. for years, and the film captures all the antics of G.N.A.R. Check out the trailer:
The party and screening is absolutely free, but the film will be projected outside, so warm clothes and a lawn chair are recommended. Of course costumes are encouraged, so dig out those neon one-pieces, headbands, fanny packs, and rear entry boots if you so desire.
The party goes down at the Bluehouse Skis factory at 998 South, 700 West in Salt Lake City. The fun begins at 8:00pm and goes until 11. Food will be provided as a grill will be going. First come, first serve though, so get there early if you want to munch. It’s also BYOB.
Word is that lots of gear sponsors will be there too, such as UnofficialSnowbird.com, Bluehouse Skis, Discrete Headwear, DaleBoot, Kuru, Kuhl, Klymit, Level9, Caballo Negro, Utah Freeskier Society, Adam Barker Photography and more. That means lots of swag will likely be thrown unceremoniously into the crowd, so get a good spot in front on a bunch of short people… or kids.
