It’s officially time to pray for snow. Get out your retro ski clothes, ritualistically burn ski wax, climb mountains to give alcoholic offerings to the ski gods, and attend the 2011 Ullr Ball “pray for snow” fundraiser to benefit Save Our Canyons.
This year’s Ullr Ball takes place on Tuesday, November 15th from 7-10pm and goes down at Squatters Brewery and Pub, located at 147 West Broadway in downtown Salt Lake City.
There a lot to look forward to at the 2011 Ullr Ball beside honoring Ullr, the Norse God of snow and patron of all skiers and snowboarders. The event promises live music by Matteo and Holy Water Buffalo, a screening of “Breaking Trail,” the latest film from local ski filmmakers Powderwhore Productions, a ski and board wax station so you can get your sticks tuned up under Ullr’s watchful eye, and a big raffle where you can win sweet gear from Voile, Petzl, Niche Snowboards, RAMP Sports, and Discrete Hats. Of course seeing as how Squatters is the church where Ullr will be worshiped, there will be lots of microbrewed beer and awesome food.
Tickets are $12 advance or $15 at the door. You can purchase tickets at the Save Our Canyons website, or by calling (801) 363-7283..
If you’d like to help out, Ullr Ball organizers are looking for volunteers to help put posters up around town to promote the event. In exchange, they’ll give you free entry to Ullr Ball. If interested, contact Havilah at havilah@saveourcanyons.org.
Remember, if you don’t go to Ullr Ball, you risk bringing Ullr’s wrath upon us, which means a whole ski season of shallow, bad snow. So pray for snow, help a local non-profit, and raise a glass of beer to Ullr at the 2011 Ullr Ball.
