If you’re a skier and you ever need justification of why you chose to live in Utah, then the latest installment of Salomon Freeski TV will not only justify, it will make you want to never leave. Season Five, Espiode 8 features Alta, Utah, and the video captures everything that’s amazing about the place in a way that’s downright touching.
But more than shooting what is obvious – skiing insanely deep, blower powder, the filmmakers take a closer look at what makes Alta a cultural ski community. Alta locals, as well as athletes like Jamey Parks and Leo Ahrens, not only wow us as they destroy the powder that falls 700-inches deep in Little Cottonwood Canyon, they also try to explain what makes Alta, Alta.
I think one local skier featured in the video, Mary Teuscher, describes Alta the best when she says, “I can’t think of anything about Alta that I don’t love. When you’re in Alta, you feel like you’re really being your own true self… I’ve often told my husband that if he wanted to scatter my ashes here, at the end, that would be just fine, because there is no more beautiful place on earth.”
The soulful clip owes its soulful vibe to the soulful stylings of Sweetgrass Productions, who produced this episode. The chill music, slow motion videography, and focus on people rather than sick tricks totally captures what a powder day of skiing at Alta and the surrounding backcountry feels like.
