Are you one of those lonely ski bums always in the singles line looking for a partner? Well, for Valentines Day, Snowbird is going to try and find you a permanent ski partner when they transform the singles-only line on the Peruvian Express chairlift into a high-speed dating event.
Of course we all know about speed dating – those ridiculous get-togethers where desperate singles go to a bar and have five minutes at a table with a rotating cast of other desperate singles trying to make a good first impression. Well, if you take the same concept and put in on a ski lift, at least you already know you and your potential new boyfriend/girlfriend have one thing in common – a love for skiing.
As a testament to the romantic power of a ski resort chairlift ride, Dave Fields, Snowbird’s Vice President of Resort Operations, proposed to his now-wife on a chairlift. “The Valentine’s singles line is a unique way of speed dating,” Fields said, “and Snowbird is the perfect place to meet fun friends.”
To make Snowbird’s Valentines Day singles line even more enticing, they’re offering adult all-day chairlift tickets at a discounted rate of only $40 on Valentine’s Day. Then after Peruvian Express closes for the day, singles can head over to an après singles social at El Chanate, Snowbird’s Mexican restaurant, located on Level A of The Cliff Lodge. When guests mention the singles line, El Chanate will offer buy-one-get-one-free appetizers and entrees throughout the evening.
Of course Snowbird isn’t leaving out those of us who have a significant other. Couples are also invited, and the resort is offering romantic dining and lodging options. Special Valentine’s Day menus will be available at The Wildflower, The Lodge Bistro and the newly remodeled Aerie. Menus may be previewed by visiting http://www.snowbird.com/events/valentinesday.html. Couples can also enjoy a Valentine’s Day retreat that includes a night at The Cliff Lodge, three treatments at The Cliff Spa with access to the scenic rooftop pool and hot tub, and Tram and lift tickets. Details can be found at http://www.snowbird.com/lodging/hotdeals.php?deal=75.
The only problem I see with this chairlift speed-dating idea, is the guy-to-girl ratio at ski resorts. Statistically the ratio is 4 guys to 1 girl, and ski towns are notoriously bad places to meet women. So chances are this shindig Snowbird is throwing bodes very well for the ladies… as we’ll likely be seeing quads full of three guys and one girl sweeping up the mountainside. The competition will be fierce.
