Women’s winter boots come in all shapes and styles, but if they’re not waterproof, fancy looks mean nothing when your feet are cold and wet. Slipping on the ultra-chic Rockport Katrina boots, I thought there’s no way these lace-ups would keep out wet rain and snow, but it turns out these shin-high kicks would (bad pun coming) keep out the hurricane that shares the same name.
The Rockport Katrina boots accomplish this dry-feet-in-any-weather task thanks to their Hydro-Shield waterproofing that is incorporated into the leather upper. Although Utah has had a pretty dry winter this year, on the days we have been hit with snow, the Katrina boots have kept my toes not just dry, but also warm.
Did I mention that they looked awesome with a dressy skirt, black tights, and my puffy vest? That day I was going for the Russian princess look (think Anastasia). So yes these I think these boots are awesome. Seriously I thought when I got them they wouldn’t keep my feet dry when if finally snowed here in Utah but they did. Then the fact they could look dressy? Surpassed my wildest expectations.
A fleece-lined interior provides ample insulation and also creates a very comfortable cocoon. The boots are also very high, which means I can trudge through deep snow drifts without worrying about errant flakes soaking my socks. Plus, unlike many winter boots with such high tops, these babies are easy to slip into and lace up. A full-zip closure finishes the job and I’m off to spend my day playing or working outside.
My only complaint about these shoes are the laces will slip out of a hook and mess up the lacing every once in a while. Otherwise they are perfect.
I also have to mention how comfortable these boots are. Usually winter boots are downright clunky and feel like you’ve got Frankenstein feet. But these Rockport boots are not clunky at all… in fact I think they’re about the most comfortable cold-weather boots I own and warm. An EVA footbed with an adiPRENE® heel pad provides shock absorption and the adiPRENE®+ forefoot pad for gives my feet tons of cushion. Plus a rubber toe guard is like a Fort Knox against anything that wants to stub my tootsies.
