The video is called, “World’s Largest Rope Swing.” Whether that is true or not is irrelevant and would probably require the folks at Guinness Book of World Records to be on hand to confirm it. Instead of that debatable title, the following video should instead be called, “World’s Most Sick Video Ever!”
Imagine running and jumping off the top of the gigantic Corona Arch just outside Moab with nothing more than a rope and harness keeping you from certain death. It seems instead of tipping cows, these kids, led by video-maker-who-goes-by-name-of-DevinSuperTramp, prefer instead to huck their meat into the abyss while getting it all on tape.
But to add even more awesome to the shenanigans, this isn’t some You Tube, fly-by-night helmet cam, “look at me” set to heavy metal music with no editing. No… this video is legit with photography and editing fit for an award-winning adventure film at the Banff Film Festival.
Do yourself a favor and watch this. I guarantee it will make you want to scramble onto an arch yourself and fly through it like a mad desert gypsy.
According to the making of video, also on You Tube, the filming happened over two days. The rope was connected to five different anchors and placed over the arch and then was looped to the ledge where these crazy bastards jumped from. The pendulum-type swing was made from 150 feet of rope, and the freefall was 130 feet. Once the rope catches riders are shot back up another 100 feet. Not only that, but a dude proposes to his girlfriends right after she took her turn on the swing. Cool stuff.
Greatest video ever. Awesome!
