Call it a competition, or call it a celebration to please Ullr so he will bless us with another amazing Utah ski season. Either way, the Skootch’n Dash will be a fun time. Here’s how it works: On Saturday, August 25 at the Downtown Farmers Market, participants can either choose to compete in a ski boot course run (approximately 1k) or the 50-meter snowboard skootch.

So what do each of these races entail? Well, the snowboard skootch is just what it sounds. You have to use the technique perfected by snowboarders who get stuck in the flats at a resort by hopping with both boots strapped into the snowboard bindings.

The ski boot run is self explanitory, though only plastic alpine ski boots will be allowed for participation in the ski boot run. Specialized backcountry, Nordic, snowboard or other boots will result in immediate disqualification.

If you win either the ski boot run or the snowboard skootch, you’ll win prizes like a Yeti Pass for best costume, Rossignol skis, a Burton snowboard and assorted merchandise from Smith, Dakine and Hot Chillys.

The entry fee is $10 per person, per race. There is a limited number of space, so register early. You can pre-register at www.active.com/running/salt-lake-city-ut/second-annual-skootchn-dash-2012.

Again, the Second Annual Ski Utah Skootch’n Dash happens on Saturday, August 25, 2012. Day-of registration is at 9 a.m. and the race Starts 10. It all happens at the Downtown Farmers Market at Pioneer Park, located at the southwest corner on 300 West Broadway.

So buckle up those boots or strap on your board, practice in your back yard, and prepare yourself to win!
