There’s isn’t a whole lot of new product being shown of at the Suunto booth at the 2012 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something full of awesome to see there. Last year they launched the Suunto Ambit, the first GPS watch in their lineup of technical wrist computers. Well the Ambit is now the only watch you’ll ever need to buy thanks to a new upgrade.
In the past, when Suunto would come up with new technology, they would simply make a new watch, which means you’d have to buy that watch to get the upgrade. This is no bueno for anyone in the 99% tax bracket. But with the Ambit, you can now enjoy all the new upgrades and technology Suunto has to offer by downloading software online and installing it on your watch.
What does this mean? Simply that you may pay a lot up front for the Ambit, but it should last you forever, no matter how many software changes the company comes up with. New this year that you can download to your Ambit, is a Logbook where you can view and examine all previous sessions stored on the watch, a Find Back feature that lets you navigate back to where you started, better views on the watch face including compass and navigation while the watch is in excercise mode, and an even faster GPS fix time.
In addition, all the other things that make the Ambit stand out are still there: altitude, navigation, speed, heart rate, weather conditions and more. You can also download routes from Movescount.com for navigating through waypoints with notifications when a waypoint is reached. What’s more, you can also create points-of-interest and navigate to them, as well as keep an online sports diary with planning and analysis on their website www.Movescount.com
