As always happens in the fall, ski movies tour around the country to get skiers and snowboarders stoked for the upcoming winter season. Matchstick Productions has been at the forefront of releasing the most innovative and eye-popping ski footage for years now. But with McConkey, they’re doing something a little bit different, and a little bit special. Instead of the usual rapid-edit, elephant parade of ski athletes mugging in a wide angle lens with product placements everywhere, Matchstick has made a documentary about the most influential skier of our time – Shane McConkey.

There isn’t a whole lot of info about the movie yet, only that it will be released winter of 2013. But what we do have is the trailer. It’s inspiring, thrilling, and emotional, and examines Shane McConkey’s life, and what drove him to the extremes that caused his death. I definitely will be in line when this film comes to Salt Lake City.
