“Choose Your Adventure.” That’s the title of the new ski flick from Utah’s own Powderwhore Productions, but it could also be the name of your own odyssey in choosing which ski movie to shell out the cash for this fall. Sure, you could go the typical route and watch the behemoth Warren Miller movie with the rest of the gapers, or you can celebrate our forthcoming winter with local skiers and filmmakers at Brewvies, all while supporting the Utah Avalanche Center.
According to Noah Howell, the ringleader of the PowderWhores, this year’s film (the 8th in a row) is, “a mixed bag of characters, exotic locations and action that we wanted to get that point across with the title. You really never know what’s coming next in this film, like the Choose Your Own Adventure series we grew up reading. We’re exploring an abandoned mining town in the Arctic, dropping cliffs with Hugo Harrison in British Columbia, plunging into the Antarctic Ocean in speedos, blasting through deep power, catching up with some crusty locals in the Wasatch and more.”
The film goes around the world, following skiers to exotic locations like Cerro Castillo, Chile, La Grave, France, the Antarctic Peninsula, Svalbard, Norway, British Columbia, Canada, and Utah’s Wasatch Mountains. Of course a locally produced ski movie will feature a lot of familiar faces from Utah, including Andrew McLean, Dylan Freed, Noah Howell, Ian Provo, Neil Provo and the Wizard of the Wasatch himself, Bob Athey.
“Choose Your Own Adventure” will screen over three nights at Brewvies Cinema Pub in downtown Salt Lake City. Here are the dates and times:
Wed September 26th Brewvies 21+ 7pm and 9pm
Thur September 27th Brewvies 21+ 7pm and 9pm
Fri September 28th Brewvies 21+ 7pm and 9pm
Tickets are on sale now for $12, but the price will increase to $15 at the door on the night of the shows. There will also be a sweet raffle happening with tons of gear being given away. All proceeds will benefit the Utah Avalanche Center.
So clear your evening schedules and support your local skiers and ski filmmakers. Make the right choice and “Choose Your Adventure” at Brewvies.
