Friday Video: Candy Mountain Fun

Mountain bike videos, like ski movies, are usually just a jumbled collection of radical-dude shots edited together with flash frames and sick slo-mo that make Red Bull chuggers get the vapors. But it is possible to make a mountain bike video that actually tells a story (you know, a narrative that has a beginning, middle and end?) Well, our Friday Video, “Candy Mountain Fun,” not only tells the story of a single ride down a Utah mountain, it’s also a soulful, artistic ride with clever moments, smoooooth editing, and a beer-infused climax at a waterfall that gave me the vapors.

Still frame from the Mike DeBernardo video, “Candy Mountain Fun.”

The video was shot and edited by friend of UtahOutside.com, Mike DeBernardo. He shot it by himself using a Canon T2i with various lenses, and hauled a tripod around on his bike to get the shots. DeBernardo describes Candy Mountain Fun as such: “Dodging Storms, mountain goats, rainbows, fall colors and waterfalls. Mountain bikes can take us to some amazing places. This is a video I shot of myself as I made my way from a story summit down to a protected grotto with a waterfall and a beer.”

Mountain bike season is almost over, at least for those of us living in the north. Hopefully this video will motivate you to get out and enjoy this awesome fall weather while it lasts, and go find your own Candy Mountain to ride down.
