Skiing for charity – can there be a better combo? One way you can ski for a good cause is at the 6th annual Bob’s Vertical Challenge at Snowbasin. This year, Ski Utah has teamed up with Bob’s Vertical Challenge to help promote the event, which takes place on Tuesday, February 26th. Brandon Ott with Ski Utah is working with Northern Utah’s premier winter charity event to make this year’s Vertical Challenge their most successful ever by bringing The Yeti along.
As with each of the previous five Vertical Challenges, all proceeds from the event go directly to ScoutReach, the charity arm for the Trapper Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Each year ScoutReach donates time and resources to aid such groups as the YMCA, Youth Impact, and several chapters of The Boys and Girls Clubs in Utah.
The way it works is this: basically, you organize a team of four, and everyone gets a GPS that tracks each participant’s vertical feet skied in a six hour period. Teams will have free reign over the entire mountain, so the event has a bit of strategy involved as well. Will you get more vert by lapping the Strawberry Gondola, or would it be better to range far afield, trying to ski every run possible on Snowbasin’s trail map? Better get that vertical plan in motion, because teams that ski over 100,000 feet get sweet swag like a Bob’s Vertical Challenge window decal that will let everyone know you belong to an exclusive 100k club.
Make your plans and mark you new calendars now for next February 26, 2013 for Bob’s Vertical Challenge at Snowbasin. Online registration as well as additional details can be found at: www.BobsVerticalChallenge.org.
