There’s a lot of outdoor recreation lights out there – from headlamps to bike lights, many companies make some sort of gear meant to illuminate our way as we navigate through the dark. But one company that we visited at the Outdoor Retailer 2013 Winter Market clearly takes lighting seriously. Light & Motion, based out of Monterey, California, are making some of the most versatile, rechargable lights I have ever seen.
Take for example the Solite. It’s a tiny little light that packs a bright punch, and can be used as a flashlight, helmet light, headlamp, and even a bike light. Consider it an all-in-one system for night adventures. It has several different mounts to transform the light to its desired duty, such as handlebar mounts and helmet mounts. It also runs on rechargeable batteries using a micro-USB cable, so you can juice your light up with your computer or laptop.
The Solite also has 180 degree visibility, battery charge indicator, regulated output, and is super light weight at only 149 grams. The Solite comes in three versions: 100 Lumens, 250 Lumens, and 250 EX Lumens.
Another impressive light is the Seca. This one is larger than the Solite, yet is also versatile as a headlamp, helmet light and bike light. The Seca Sport is 1,200 Lumens and will run for 1.5 hours at full blast. It weighs only 420 grams and comes with three different mounts: a headstrap, helmet and bike handlebar mount.
I truly was impressed with these lights and think they would be ideal for anything from evening bike commutes to 24-hour mountain bike races. Another good thing is that Light & Motion designs and produces their products right here in the USA. For more, visit www.lightandmotion.com
