Current and past Salt Lake City Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K’ers, Kids Marathon, and Bike Tourers — UNITE! Monday’s tragedy in Boston wasn’t just an attack on America or Boston, it was an attack on runners of all speeds.
“Can’t Slow Us Down!”, a Facebook event, has been created by a local SLC’er who plans to wear on old Boston bib and pace his friend. So he’s encouragin everyone to join in. Throw on any Boston paraphernalia you may have, stand on the sidelines, run with a friend, or cheer from your porch for the thousands of runners who will make their way across Salt Lake City this Saturday, April 20 starting at 7 a.m.
As Jeremy Suwinski says in his post, “…show that it takes more than that to slow us down. It would show solidarity, not necessarily as Americans, but as Runners!” Most of these runners have trained for several months in preparation, the least we can do is show up for an hour and show them that we are there for them.
Here are maps of the Full and Half Marathon courses. Please note that the finish line will be at Liberty Park this year.
The Salt Lake City Marathon is described as an event for “runners of all ages and ability levels to enjoy crisp, cool running weather in April, in a setting that surrounds them with snow-capped peaks contrasting with spring blossoms, all along a flat and slightly downhill course. The Marathon, Half marathon, and Bike Tour all start at the Olympic Legacy Bridge at the University of Utah, the site of the 2002 Winter Olympic Athlete Village. The gentle course then skirts the base of the towering WasatchMountains, passes by cozy neighborhoods and elegant estates, and winds through SaltLake’s legendary wide streets, finishing in beautiful Liberty Park. Shuttles will provide transportation from Liberty Park to TRAX after the race.”
The Salt Lake City Marathon is certified and sanctioned through USATF, and is a qualifier for the BostonMarathon.
