The Salt Lake Climbers Alliance will be hosting their 4th annual Fundraiser Party at the Black Diamond Store, and I was going to post a boring article about the whos, whats, whens, wheres, whys and hows. Then I saw this photo:
Crate stacking? A perfunctory look on the Internet revealed that “crate stacking” is a newfangled event that rock climbers invented (presumably during downtime between climbs) where said climbers try to make the highest stack of milk crates possible. Since obviously about 6 crates would be higher than a human being, to further stack the crates, one must be on belay then climb onto the stack, adding more and more crates while climbing. The trick is to do this without falling or knocking all the crates down. Maybe it’s kinda’ like human Jenga.
The winner gets a rack of Black Diamond Camalots.
Sound like fun? Then you better start making plans to attend the SLCA Fundraiser Party right… about… now.
This year’s event is happening on Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 6:00pm until 10:00pm at the Black Diamond Store, located at 2084 East, 3900 South in Salt Lake City. According to SLCA, the party raises money for the organization which helps them continue their work to protect and advocate for climbing in the Wasatch. You can expect your donations to be used toward noble causes such as environmental stewardship, access to local crags, community outreach and climbing education.
The party will be held outdoors, rain or shine, and anyone under the age of 21 must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs will not be allowed.
Tickets cost $25 if purchased before May 28, then they will cost $30. Kinds are only $10. Purchase them online via PayPal at: www.saltlakeclimbers.org/fundraiser2013, at the Black Diamond Store, IME, and White Pine Touring.
In addition, there will be food from Barbacoa, beer from Red Rock Brewing, and a raffle with tons of gear to be given away.
