Finally! I get so excited in August for ski season, because all the teases start. The first issue of Power Magazine comes in the mail, ski movie trailers hit the Internet, and the annual Utah Avalanche Center Fall Fundraiser Party is announced. This season marks the 20th year of the fundraiser at the Black Diamond Store. Believe it or not, but fall is very near as evidenced by the ground cover I saw turning orange in Alexander Basin last week, so it’s time to think snow!
Like every year, the Utah Avalanche Center depends on backcountry users like skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers, and snowmobilers to help fund their operations so they can continue to keep everybody on top of the snow instead of underneath it from an avalanche burial. Their daily safety reports and exhaustive snowpack research in Utah’s mountains are critical for this life-saving service, but it doesn’t come cheap. That’s why the UAC needs your attendance at the 20th annual Black Diamond Fall Fundraiser.
So although you may still have biking and golf on the brain, it really is time to start brushing up on avalanche safety and helping the avalanche forecasters who keep us informed (and alive) in the backcountry. The big party will once again be at the Black Diamond Store in Salt Lake City, and this year it takes place on Thursday, September 12th from 6-10pm. Tickets are on sale right now online and at the Black Diamond Store and Sandy and SLC REI until Sept 11. After that, tickets will be available for $45 at the door.
Beverages will be provided by Uinta Brewing, Mexican food by Rico, live music by Herban Empire, silent auction and raffle with tons of great donated gear, and over 1,200 other backcountry enthusiasts and Utah Avalanche Center supporters. All proceeds go towards providing the tools you use to stay on top of the Greatest Snow on Earth.
Come celebrate the end of summer and support a great cause at the Black Diamond Store, located at 2084 E. 3900 S. in Salt Lake City.
