I’m going to come out and just say it – Sweetgrass Productions is making the most creative and different, no, wildly different ski movies ever. I know some people think they’re too artsy and slow, but at least Sweetgrass isn’t afraid to tear open the box that most ski movie companies confine themselves to. And with the release of their new ski flick, “Valhalla,” they’ve proven once again to be rewriting the way we think about seasonal ski porn.
I really dig the 1970s iconography here. As a child of the 70s, the style, music and vibe has had a profound influence on me. It’s hard for me to think about outdoor recreration without imagining external frame packs, leather vests, long hair, and awesome beards. Or maybe I just watched one-too-many Coors commercials on TV when my brain was young and impressionable. Either way, both the 70s and the outdoors represent freedom, and “Valhalla” seems to capture both in one slick and trippy package.
