Nothing gets skiers jazzed up for ski season more than over-the-head powder footage. In this week’s featured video, the new short film “Dub Roots” by the Dubsatch Collective, there’s plenty of it, and they even keep it mellow with one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs.
The video is shot entirely at Alta. It’s basically a love letter to Alta – a recording of a powder day beginning before dawn as friends hang out inside Goldminer’s Daughter for interlodge, then the powder feast when lifts start running. The narrative continues as the sun shines bright and skiers take to kickers, jumps and cliff drops. It all wraps up as they go home, driving down to Salt lake City at sunset for a little nighttime bowling.

If anything, the video not only made me sweat and yearn for some powder skiing at Alta, but it also made me feel so grateful that I live on the Wasatch Front, where anybody can ski neck-deep fluff before work, or shred all day and go bowling that night in the city. The Wasatch truly is a special place.
Local skiers that appear in the film include: Mitch Cahoon, Sam Cohen, Leo Ahrens, Hayden Price, Colter Hinchliffe, Thayne Rich, John Collinson and Taylor Lyman. the video was filmed and edited by Nate Cahoon with additional footage by Leo Ahrens and Zach Halverson.
