New Year’s Eve is always a good time at Utah’s ski resorts. There’s parties, events, music, fireworks, and of course the traditional torchlight parade. Plus, who wouldn’t want to stay up until midnight in the mountains, then start the new year right by skiing on New Year’s Day? So below is a list of New Year’s Eve events at Utah resorts, so you’ll have no excuse for not smooching somebody amongst the snow when the ball drops.
The Torchlight Parade has been a long tradition at Alta. Families and friends gather and ride the Collins lift up at nightfall to begin the celebration of another year’s end. Because the number of skiers who participate in the parade has grown over the years, we now stage a more free-flowing event with no formal start time. Hopefully this minimizes the cold waiting time once skiers get off the lift and allows families to participate and to be at the base to watch fireworks and enjoy time by the fire.
We have tried for a few years to use the Torchlight Parade as an opportunity for our skiers to donate to our friends in need through the Utah Food Bank. This season we will be charging all who participate in the parade a minimum donation of $5. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Utah Food Bank. Tickets will be on sale from 8:45 am until 6 pm at the Wildcat Base Ticket Office on December 31st.
The parade follows the main cat track from the angle station at Collins lift to the Wildcat Base.
Start loading Collins lift about 5:15pm. Skiers will get off at the angle station.
Children need to be accompanied by an adult and have their own headlamps or flashlights. Adults will receive a torch or flare, as supplies permit. Having your own light is a good idea.
All participants need to be intermediate level or stronger.
Open containers will not be allowed on the lift.
Snowbird will also have a torchlight parade and fireworks. Join us on the Plaza Deck at dusk (approx. 6 p.m.) for bonfires, a spectacular torchlight parade and fireworks.
After the festivities, dance your way to 2014 at the Wildflower Lounge for their New Year’s Eve Party.
