It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Salt Lake City-based Voile skis, the Chargers being among my favorite skis of all time. So it was with great relish that I got to manhandle the new V6 skis at the Outdoor Retailer 2014 Winter Market.
According to Voile, the V6 are a narrower version of the popular and award winning V8. The V6 look to be true backcountry sticks – lightweight for skinning uphill, with enough girth and rocker to float turns in the powder, and a sidecut appropriate for cranking turns on hardpack. Voile says the V6 are more nimble than the V8, with a tight sidecut radius within a short running length. It also has a tapered tail to provide effortless and agile float in deep pow. The 183 length is 100mm underfoot.
Also new from Voile for the 14/15 season are the new Revelator BC splitboards. These are truly revolutionary as they have an innovative traction pattern on the base for uphill climbing. Much like the Charger and Vector BC skis, the base pattern doesn’t replace your skins, but works well on long, low angle approaches, ridge crossings, short yoyo turns, and for making transitions faster when you hit a flat runout. I can really see how this would appeal to splitboarders stuck in flat terrain in the backcountry.
Also new on Voile splitboards are the Channel Puck System. You can set up your stance width and angles by using the Voile Alignment Guide. Simply loosen the screws and move the pucks right where you want them quickly and easily. Pretty cool.
Finally, they’ve redesigned the board shape, flex, camber/early rise profile, and weight. They say it will maximize the backcountry riding experience. By using a lightweight Paulownia wood core, they have reduced weight without compromise in strength and performance. Using carbon glass and adding a slightly longer camber area, the board now skins more efficiently and doesn’t wheelie when you are up to speed. They also have an early rise nose and tapered tail to make powder riding effortless.
Expect to see the new Voile V6 skis and Revelator splitboards in stores this fall.
Is that V8 with new graphics next to the v6?
Hi Keith,
Yep, that’s the new 2014/15 V8 next to the V6.
