Sherpa Adventure Gear is going high tech this year, with new outdoor jackets and baselayers featuring Primaloft Gold Insulation Down Blend and a Primaloft/Merino blend fabric. Will the combo of Primaloft with natural fibers and down be a winner? Check out the tech gear below to find out.
Vayu PriMerino Base Layer
The Vayu PriMerino is an entire line with ten different styles for men and women. One example is the The Vayu Zip Tee. It features a quarter zip ventilation, performance fit and reversed flat seams to reduce chafing. It’s also entirely made from PrimaLoft Silver Performance Yarn Merino Wool Blend.
Sherpa says the yarn joins 50% thin PrimaLoft One and 50% Merino wool to result in a yarn that works better than wool can on its own. According to PrimaLoft, the blend keeps you feeling dry and warm while it moves moisture. Resulting fabrics dry 20% faster than Merino wool does on its own because the Merino wool pulls moisture away from the skin while the PrimaLoft content pushes it to the surface.
Nangpala Hooded Down Jacket
New Primaloft technology is also present in the Nangpala. It’s a down jacket filled with PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation Down Blend. Styles will be available for both for men and women. They say this new insulating fill is less absorptive and faster drying than down by itself, because the Gold Insulation Blend combines 30% superfine hydrophobic PrimaLoft fibers with 70% water-repellent 750-fill power goose down. It all sounds intriguing to me and I look forward to seeing how well this new Primaloft works in gnarly mountain conditions.
Pertemba Jacket
Finally, the men’s Pertemba Jacket, which will cost $399 uses two eVent® fabrics to ensure what Sherpa says is the best breathability possible in an air permeable and waterproof shell jacket for stop and go activities like backcountry skiing (my ears just perked up.) Key features include a fit designed for layering, removable powder skirt and a helmet-‐compatible hood with a one-‐handed cinch system, and seams and pockets that won’t interfere with a pack or harness.
