If you ever need an excuse to drink beer, and support one of Utah’s most important outdoor organizations at the same time, then Uinta Brewing has one for you. 801, their new, small batch pilsner in a can, will be used to support local, non-profits in Utah. 801 refers to the Salt Lake area code, and as such Uinta says this beer will be their “Community Builder” brand as the featured non-profit’s logo will be labeled on the can.
According to the Utah Beer Blog, 801’s first organization to receive proceeds is every winter backcountry traveler’s favorite, the Utah Avalanche Center. Uinta has been a staunch supporter of the UAC for 20 years, so it’s a perfect match.
The publisher of the Utah Beer Blog, Mike Riedel, describes 801 as a German-style pilsner with a “strong, grassy/herbal nose” with sweet pale malts beneath and a taste of “toasty crackers, some lemon and floral hops.”
We should be seeing Uinta’s 801 Pilsner on store shelves the first week of July. Also, if you’re hitting the Utah Art Festival you’ll have the opportunity to give 801 a taste as it will be on tap.
So if you’re a backcountry skier, snowshoer, splitboarder, snowmobiler, or anyone who supports the good work of local non-profits, grab several cases of 801, make it your go-to summer beer, and support the Utah Avalanche Center months before you need their vast knowledge of “keeping you on top.”
