National Trails Day is coming up fast! This Saturday, June 7th volunteers from all over Utah will converge on our trails with shovels, picks and saws in a massive effort to repair, build and maintain our awesome singletrack networks. If you hike, mountain bike, or even ride horses on your local trails, stepping up and lending a hand is a good way to give back.
There are dozens of volunteer opportunities in Utah happening on Saturday morning. Below is a list of trails and organizations that are participating. Check it out, pick your favorite one, and get out there on National Trails Day.
Park City
- Mountain Trails Foundation will be hosting a trail work day on the new Stoneridge property in Round Valley. Click here for details.
- Basin Recreation will be doing some drainage repair along the Cobblestone Trail in the Preserve area. For details on their workday, visit their website.
- Wasatch Trails Alliance will be working on the soon to be constructed WOW Trail. The WOW “Wasatch Over Wasatch” Trail will connect Wasatch Mountain State Park, Midway and Heber Cities to Park City and the Wasatch Front at Guardsman’s Pass. This two year $200,000 dollar project will kick off on National Trails Day with the first two legs of the Phosphate and Springer Hollow trails being worked on. Visit their website for details.
Salt Lake City
- Tree Utah will be cleaning up the Jordan River Trail in West Valley City’s Redwood Nature Area. They will take groups of volunteers to clean up graffiti, pick up trash, care for trees planted over the years, and remove invasive weeds. Registration is required HERE, and they will then be able to send email updates about weather, what to bring, and where to meet.
- Cottonwood Canyon Foundation will be working on the Little Cottonwood Trail. Volunteer jobs will include trail work, invasive weed removal, litter clean-up and possible graffiti removal. 100 volunteers are needed for trail work (must be 16 yrs or older) or invasive weed removal (must be 13 yrs or older). Provo
- The Rock Canyon Preservation Alliance will give Rock Canyon some TLC. Help them beautify the canyon on Saturday, June 7, beginning at 7:0o am. They will be repairing the trail system, removing debris, tackling invasive weeds, and restoring areas scarred by bonfires.
