Ski movies are undergoing a major evolution lately – they’re getting shorter. Maybe it’s due to the success of Salomon Freeski TV, but the short ski film is gaining traction. Sweetgrass Productions is in on the game with their short, “Afterglow,” and now Salt Lake City’s own DPS Skis has introduced The Shadow Campaign.
The Shadow Campaign is the first content to come out of the new DPS Cinematic. It’s a series of 4 short films that the company says they’ve been working on for several years. This apparently will become an ongoing tradition as they plan to, “create an annual line-up of fresh, artistic, festival-worthy film shorts released online.” DPS goes on to say they they are committed to, “meaningful storytelling amidst storm-chasing and deep powder riding, with using the latest and greatest camera equipment and leading cinematographers, all-the-while showcasing our skis on the feet of the DPS Koalas.”
In its inaugural 2014/15 season, DPS Cinematic will release four film shorts, each about five minutes long and shot in different locations around the globe. These include Valle Nevado, Mt. Baker, Baldface, and Refugio Frey. DPS submitted the Refugio Frey episode, “Sun Dog,” to the Banff Mountain Film Festival, and it was selected as a finalist. That right there speaks to the quality of these short films.
Having skied at Refugio Frey with my backcountry buddies, and experiencing a trip of a lifetime there, I’m particularly excited to watch “Sun Dog.”
Below is the release dates of all 4 DPS Cinematic films:
