Icebreaker is well known for their merino wool base layers, but they’ve gone far beyond that. At Outdoor Retailer 2015 Winter Market, technical outerwear using merino as high-loft insulation is the big story, which perked my interest as Icebreaker as long been among my favorite brands. Add in jackets that can be used for backcountry skiing and other outdoor pursuits, and I’m all in.
Zone One Sheep Suit
Of course underwear is still one thing Icebreaker does very, very well, and the new Zone One Sheep Suite is proof. It’s a onesie ninja-suit made with merino wool and 4% Lycra for mobility. The suit uses their Bodyfit ZONE design which targets temperature control where it is needed most. The suit has a quarter zip for easy in/out and ventilation, a hood, and a back flap (poop chute). Looks cozy for all day wear in the backcountry. MSRP $200
Helix LS ZIP
A good example of their new technical wear is the Helix LS ZIP. It features 180 grams of MerinoLOFT in the body and 100 grams in the sleeves. It also is built with a water repellent coating, and woven merino on the inside for next-to-skin comfort. Looks like a nice, light weight mid layer for active winter activity. MSRP $250.
Not pictured is the Stratus LS ZIP HOOD, a heavier, hooded version also featuring MerinoLOFT insulation. MSRP $300.
Expect to see the new line of Icebreaker technical apparel in stores Fall 2015.
