Mountain Hardwear is once again stepping up their backcountry-skiing game at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market with new apparel that insulates and breathes for the up and the down.
Micro Thermostatic Jacket
Among the myriad of layering pieces that will be coming out this year, is the new Micro Thermostatic Jacket. This is a very light weight layer that has 40 grams of the company’s proprietary Thermal.Q Elite insulation, which they claim is, “ounce for ounce, the warmest synthetic insulation ever made.” It comes in men’s and women’s versions and features a single interior toggle hem for easy adjustment, two zippered hand warmer pockets, and it zips into its own pocket for packable storage. It comes out Fall ’15 with an MSRP of $175
Thermostatic Jacket
On the heavier (but still light) side is the Thermostatic Jacket. Also a layering piece, it’s warm enough to use as a standalone jacket. It has 60 grams of Thermal.Q Elite insulation, covered with 20D nylon fabric for durability. Also ultra-compressible and packable in it’s own pocket. It weighs 9oz, come sin men’s and women’s versions, and will cost $185 when released in Fall ’15.
Hellgate Jacket
What really got me excited from Mountain Hardwear is the new Hellgate Jacket. As a backcountry skier, this one made me salivate. The company says it’s purpose-built for all-day backcountry comfort. It features the ultra-breathable Dry.Q Elite membrane (this stuff works – I know from experience) as well as 3-layer construction. A two-way adjustable, helmet-compatible hood, removable powder skirt, chest pockets that double as core vents, pit zips, interior zippered pocket, and tricot fleece-lined hand pockets with key clip round out the features. It comes out Fall ’15 with an MSRP of $450.
