The Mountain Accord, a group of Wasatch Canyon stakeholders including government, environmental, ski resort, conservation and transportation organizations, has spent over a year crafting a blueprint to guide the future of canyon development. They considered public input, gathered the wants and desires of everybody involved, and finally unveiled the first blueprint on Wednesday.
Much of the plan is what everyone has rumored, including tunnels, new lifts and gondolas, land set aside as open space, and even a train in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Here are some highlights:
- Tunnel connecting Alta and Brighton
- Tunnel or tram connecting Brighton to Park City
- Train in Little Cottonwood Canyon
- Land exchanges between ski resorts for base expansion in exchange for valued land for backcountry recreation
- New trail network on the Wasatch Back that connects to the Cottonwood Canyons
- Express bus service from the airport to Park City
- Possible user fees in certain canyons
- Possible parking fees to encourage public transit use
- Shuttle service in Mill Creek Canyon
You can read the full Mountain Accord Blueprint on their website. They are taking public comments via a short questionnaire until March 16.
