May is Mountain Madness for the Mountain Trails Foundation. And what is that you may ask? The MTF is a Park City-based nonprofit organization that advocates for non-motorized trails along the Wasatch Back. They help conserve open space, build trails and keep users informed about volunteer events and trail conditions. So if you hike or mountain bike the trails around Park City, then you can give back by becoming a member.
During the entire month of May, Mountain Trails Foundation will be holing membership drives. Income generated goes toward printing updated trail maps, educational resources and the website that informs users of current trail conditions. They also promote a unified Park City trail system by helping it grow and improve, assure financial sustainability for the trail systems they manage, and promote local trail events.
Some of the membership drive locations they will be visiting include:
May 10-11, Young Riders Bike Swap
May 13, 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., Wasatch Bagels
May 20, 5:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m., Mountain Madness Event at Canyons Resort (see below for details)

May 20th is the biggest date on the calendar and one you won’t want to miss. Mountain Madness at Canyons Resort will be a family-friendly event full of movies, food, drinks, drawings, and giveaways. According to Mountain Trails Foundation, highlights include:
- Film Viewing of Rising from Ashes at 7:30pm (82 minute documentary, narrated by Forest Whitaker, an inspirational story about a group of genocide survivors as they pursue the dream of a national cycling team).
- Presentations from local organizations regarding this summer’s trail projects.
- Free, movie-themed treats. Nacho Bar, fresh popped popcorn, candy station and beverages.
- Every $10 of your membership equals one opportunity drawing ticket ($100 = 10 tickets). The drawing will include a set of carbon fiber bicycle wheels donated by Reynolds. Other valuable items donated by Vail Resorts/Canyons Resort will be part of the opportunity drawing as well.
