Father’s day is coming up fast, and if you haven’t yet found a gift for your outdoorsy dad, here are some cool and unusual ideas that we’re sure he will love.
Leatherman Tread
First up is a Leatherman… but not your grandpa’s old multi tool. This thing is on a whole other level – it’s a manly wrist accessory (DO NOT call it a bracelet). According to the company, the Leatherman Tread is crafted of high strength, corrosion resistant 17-4 stainless steel links that include two to three functional tools each, making a total of 29 usable features like box wrenches and screwdrivers available at a moment’s notice.
Created to be fully customizable with slotted fasteners, Tread users can rearrange links, add new ones, or adjust for wrist size to 1Ž4”. Even the clasp is functional with a bottle opener and #2 square drive. Other link tools include a cutting hook, hex drives, screwdrivers, box wrenches, and a carbide glass breaker. The Tread is available in stainless steel and DLC (diamond like coating) black finish. MSRP is $150.00 and $200.00 USD, respectively and it’s currently available at Cabela’s.
BioLite Base Camp
If dad likes to camp, then he’ll LOVE the BioLite BaseCamp. It’s a stove that is powered by wood and other biomass, eliminating the need for heavy, expensive, polluting petroleum gas.
According to BioLite, by converting heat from the fire into usable electricity, the BaseCamp also recharges phones, tablets, lights and other gadgets while cooking up a meal. Unlike solar, BioLite’s technology is a true on-demand source. The BaseCamp features enhanced power output that generates 5 watts for charging devices. An intuitive LED dashboard display lets you know heat output and when it’s ready to charge devices. In addition, the BaseCamp comes with a flexible USB light, helping you keep your site illuminated which comes particularly in handy when cooking.
Rattlesnake SL2 mtnGLO Tent
Another awesome new camping technology for dad comes from Big Agnes and their Rattlesnake SL2 mtnGLO Tent. What’s great about this tent is that you can light up your camp with the tent itself. Big Agnes says this is possible thanks to patent-pending mtnGLO™ Tent Light Technology featuring LED lights integrated into the tent body. You can experience ambient light in your shelter with the click of a button. With ample living space this super light two person, three season backpacking tent features a two door/two vestibule design, which along with mtnGLO™, makes for comfortable and convenient trail living.
