There’s a new trail running series coming to Utah, from a Salt Lake City-based clothing company. The Discrete Peak Series will be different from all the other trail running events in that it will focus on shorter distances with an emphasis on conquering peaks. According to Discrete Clothing, each race will begin at the base lodge of a ski resort, and participants will “run, hike, scramble, and trek their way to the peak before descending back down to the finish.”
Post race festivities at each event will include a vendor village, dinner and drinks, and live music. There will also be raffles, gear giveaways, and a winners ceremony.
The key to winning a Discrete Peak Series race is to simply be the fastest to the top of a mountain and back. Rather than focusing on distance, elevation gain and loss will be the antagonist that will blow your lungs and legs out. So do you think you have what it takes to compete? Here are the series location and dates:
Alta – August 9th
Snowbird – September 5th
Berthoud Pass, Colorado – September 13th
Deer Valley – September 19th
Also of note is that over $15k in prize money is up for grabs over the 4-event series. Men and women will receive an equal payout. In addition, the first man and woman to the top of the peak wins a GoPro camera. The first 100 runners to register for each race will also get a custom Discrete snapback hat.
At the end of the series, an overall pro winner will be crowned, while the expert and sport category winners will have a chance to win tons of gear and prizes from participating sponsors.
The first race, which happens at Alta, will begin at the Albion Lodge with a course that includes famous ski trails like Greeley and the High-T. From there, the course traverses over to the top of Baldy, before returning back to Albion Grill. That gives you an idea of what to expect at the Discrete Peak Series.
