Mountain Hardwear has been busy cooking up new outerwear (and inner-wear) in time for the upcoming fall and spring ’16 product lines. According to the company, they’ve been focused on making their apparel look good, as opposed to the shapeless, formless jackets and pants of old. Also on display is a new layering line inspired by mountaineer Ueli Steck.
The Ueli Steck Project is a collaboration between Mountain Hardwear and the swiss alpinist, that focuses on functionality and “time-on-body percentage of each garment.” The result is the Supercharger Hooded Insulated Jacket. It’s a weather-resistant puffy that features Dry.Q shell fabric in key areas for added warmth and protection, as well as 120 grams of Thermal.Q Elite insulation combined with 800-fill down. The company calls this their “new gold standard for alpine insulation.” MSRP $350
Also in the Ueli Steck line is the Supercharger Shell. It’s the lightest, fully tapered waterproof/breathable jacket Mountain Hardwear has ever made. While being so light (6oz) it’s barely there, the material is actually very tough 2.5-layer 15D Dry.Q Active fabric. The jacket also features one zippered chest stow pocket, an internal stretch dump pocket, and a helmet-compatible hood. MSRP $225
Another jacket featured is the Ghost Lite Pro. It’s a new generation of the line with a new wicking mesh lining. At only 9 oz, it’s light enough for aerobic activities on cold days. MSRP $130
Mountain Hardwear has a new, light weight backpacking tent called the Ghost UL. There are 1 and 2-person versions. Each uses ultra-light fabrics with a fully-taped fly taped perimeter seams, and welded corners and guy-clip anchors. MSRP $449 (2-person)
For packs, new next year is the Rainshadow OutDry. It’s Mountain Hardwear’s first waterproof daypack. Rain-tested for 24 hours with nary a drop getting inside, it features easy-zippered access, multiple pockets, padded hip belt, and is available in 26 or 36-liter versions. MSRP $150
