There is a serious trend of ski companies producing quality video content to promote their products, and Utah’s own Black Diamond is the latest to enter the fray with BDTV.
The first company to do so was Salomon, with their very successful Salomon Freeski TV series. Mike Douglas paved the way with online shorts that were just as good, if not better than, anything we’ve seen churned out by actual ski-movie production houses like TGR or Matchstick Productions. Later, Utah-based DPS Skis unveiled short films under the banner of The Shadow Campaign. Now it’s Black Diamond’s turn.
This week BDTV released a trailer showcasing stories of ski mountaineers, avalanche forecasters, and iconic destinations that inhabit the soul of skiing. The first episode will premiere on Sunday, September 27. For now, you can check out the trailer:
Looks like Black Diamond will be taking a different approach with their video series by focusing on lesser-known skiers in the backcountry. Instead of pro athletes shredding the mountain, expect to see the unsung heroes finally getting their due. Of particular note, is the preview of the second episode titled “The Forecaster,” which features the Utah Avalanche Center’s Drew Hardesty. I’m definitely looking forward to watching that one on October 18th.
In addition, Black Diamond will be taking the short films on tour around the world. The BDTV Film Tour will be in Salt Lake at the Black Diamond Store on October 15th at 7pm. There will be beer, food, slideshows with Black Diamond athletes, and a raffle for Black Diamond gear.
