Alta opened for the 2015/16 ski season on Friday, November 20, and conditions were much better than anyone anticipated. Ski Utah blogger, Matt Baydala, noted that he didn’t expect much, so didn’t bother to bring his good cameras. He was wrong to doubt the power of Alta. But at least he was able to put together this edit of one run off Wildcat on Alta’s first day. Looks like the snow was fresh and fun… the makings of hero turns. Check it out:
Alta delivered the goods with Wildcat, Collins and Sunnyside lifts operating. Unfortunately, seeing as how Alta opened on a Friday, those of us with full-time jobs could not get away from work (like myself). But I’ll be up there over the weekend getting my ski legs back under me. I hope my quads don’t give out on me before noon.
Snowbird also opened on Friday, and word is that it was one of the best opening days in years. In fact, it’s been five years since the Tram operated on the first day of the season – proof that conditions are stellar in Little Cottonwood Canyon for mid-November. The ‘Bird reported a 24″ base and 45″ total for the season so far. The Tram, Chickadee and Gadzoon were all in operation.
It’s so good to know that the LCC ski resorts are both open for the season. Were we go, folks! And here’s to hoping it’s the best season in years!
