Longtime Alta skiers, Brant Moles and Jesse Weeks, have started up a new ski guide service in Utah. It’s called Superior Turns, and they aim to show the “serious leisure enthusiast” a damn good time. Their first venture this season will be TUNE UP Camp at Alta. On December 5-7, the camp will be an awesome way for skiers to dust off the cobwebs and fine tune free skiing skills.
Jesse and Brant will help you “dial in your equipment, your mentality, and solidify your technique, ensuring confidence for the season ahead.” The duo says they will provide you with the tools to “stay strong and happy” while skiing mountains like Alta. In addition, they will show you an Alta that most visitors don’t know about – it’s an education that’s interesting and rich with “mining history, legendary accomplishments in avalanche control work, and in more recent years, its status as an established home to big mountain free-riding.”
Check out the full schedule below from the Superior Turns website:
Thursday, December 4th & Friday, December 5th : Arrival Window
Arrival schedule is dependent on each participant and their travel arrangements. Ideally, each participant will arrive between Thursday night and Friday afternoon to allow time for acclimation to 8,500 feet, equipment adjustment (if needed), and warm up. Both Jesse and Brant will be available all day Friday to ski, dial in equipment, or direct participants to the best post-travel hot tub or refreshment depending on arrival times.
Friday, December 5th, 6:00 pm : Cocktail Hour Meet Up
Meet your fellow participants and get details for the coming days. We’ll be in touch on time and place.
Saturday, December 6th & Sunday December 7th
The group will meet each morning and maximize what Alta has to offer that day. Actual schedule will be carefully communicated to participants and curated to the group’s unique dynamic and current weather/terrain conditions. Jesse and Brant will make sure to maximize the best options available to the group each day. Lifts stop spinning at 4:15pm; in order to get the most of Sunday, we recommend a later flight. The SLC International Airport is about one hour from Alta. Monday’s a good option too.
Your days may include, but are not limited to:
- personalized technique evaluation
- video analysis
- technique instruction and drills
- confidence building
- schralping
- snow safety & snow science introductions
- equipment assessment personalized to each skiers ability, style, and build
- route finding
- avalanche history of Alta
- tall tales
- photography or ski movie presentations
The cost is $1,000 per-person.
Both Jesse and Brant have extensive experience as keepers of stoke. Jesse Weeks is an Alta ski patroller and professional, world-traveling guide. Brant Moles is a world-champion freeskier who has appeared in numerous ski movies and helped develop big mountain freeriding. Together, they have an accumulated 45+ years of experience skiing in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
So join Jesse and Brant as they bring you into the unique fold that is the community of Alta skiers, where they will show you our way of life. But be careful, you may never want to leave…
