Ever wonder how weather geeks predict storms and snowfall in the Wasatch? Want to learn how you can do it yourself? With the Interwebz at our fingertips, and wise men to show us the way, you too can become what Drew Hardesty calls a “Dirtbag Meteorologist.”
On Wednesday, December 16th, you can join the Utah Avalanche Center’s own Drew Hardesty for “Predict the Pow: Backcountry Meteorology 101” at the Black Diamond Store in Salt Lake City. Hardesty will be joined by National Weather Service guru, Larry Dunn, for a fireside chat-style evening of DIY forecasting for backcountry skiers and snowboarders.
Hardesty and Dunn plan on talking about radar, satellite and weather models, plus Wasatch-specific info on orographics, lake effect snow and more. They promise that after you spend an evening with them you’ll be able to go home, look at radar, satellite, and weather maps and models, and be able to forecast and plan for your next powder day in the Wasatch.
Predict the Pow takes place at the Black Diamond Store on Wednesday, December 16th at 7:30 p.m. The store is located at 2092 East, 3900 South in Holladay. The cost is free, but donations to the Utah Avalanche Center are encouraged.
